A vehicle access road will be required through the woodland which will be used for movements of staff vehicles and CO2 tankers which it is assumed will service the site twice daily. Pedestrian walkways will also be required to each FACE array.
Fieldwork Compound.
This is close to, and supports, the field experiments by providing staff work space and welfare facilities. In addition facilities to clean up samples from the field and prepare sampling equipment will be required. The Fieldwork compound will also house the control facilities for the FACE and flux experiments. Sufficient storage facilities will also be required for equipment. This facility must be capable of being relocated to alternative sites within the Norbury Park estate at the end of the lease agreement.
CO2 storage and Distribution.
CO2 will be delivered to site by tanker and transferred to insulated storage vessels. The storage vessels will need to be equipped with refrigeration and heating units to maintain a pressure of 1725kPa to ensure the CO2 is in the liquid phase irrespective of demand. To ensure continuity of supply during the emission season and avoid the requirement for weekend and bank holiday deliveries the storage vessels will need to have a capacity of approximately 100 tons based on an estimated weekly use of 190 tons. The storage facilities will have to be located within a suitably accessible location within Mill Haft.
Liquid CO2 will be vaporised through ambient air heat exchangers and the gaseous CO2 passed through pressure regulators to provide an output pressure of 140kPa. The CO2 gas at low pressure will then be piped to the FACE rings through polyethylene tubing.
At each face unit the CO2 will be injected under the control of a rotary ramp metering valve into a plenum downstream of an air supply fan and the defined gas mix piped to the FACE unit towers.
