The University of Derby is looking to select appropriate Construction Company/Companies to tender for different scopes of supply on our Leek Campus, this may be phased in the delivery and we may choose different contractors to complete different parts of the redevelopment area.
The proposed redevelopment of Leek College campus will remove all RICS condition C and D property and greatly enhance site movement, removing all current access issues relating to DDA.
Funding has been allocated by the Skills Funding Agency for new accommodation which will provide an exciting and stimulating environment including teaching and engineering space; a new social hub and cafe; art and design studios; graduate hair beauty salon and associated administration space.
There will also be significant remodelling of the external landscaping.
Due to the programme and site constraints some enabling works and temporary accommodation will be required. This may include demolitions, temporary classroom accommodation and temporary service provision.
The first phase of works is currently under construction, with an Engineering Building due for completion in September 2013. This new project will also include the extension of the building currently under construction.
The works comprise the following elements;
Undertake the demolition of; Engineering workshop, Millblock, Carr Gymnasium, Cyber Cafe, derelict factory unit, storage warehouse and Mobile classrooms. Erect temporary classroom facilities and associated services.
Construct new and refurbished facilities which include; existing teaching buildings, new Art Design building, Engineering Building, car parking and landscaping on the existing live college whilst maintaining access and function of the retained structures.
This will have an approximate gross internal area of 1 500 m² of new build and 500 m² Refurbishment, with a potential Contract Sum in the range of GBP 3 m to GBP 5m.
The works will be required to meet a BREEAM requirement for the new build of Excellent and refurbishment of Very Good. The Contractor must have a proven track record of delivering this requirement, in order to comply with the funding model.
