Aberdeen is a city of international significance and the commercial hub that drives the regional economy of the North East of Scotland. The availability of world class digital connectivity is a key component in the Strategic Infrastructure Plans of Aberdeen City and Shire. Demand for digital connectivity is being driven by economic growth and a vibrant commercial and residential sector. As a result the ‘Accelerate Aberdeen’ programme was established to promote and encourage the deployment of the world class digital infrastructure required. Aberdeen is a winner of UK Government Urban Broadband Fund to become a ‘Super Connected City’.
This PQQ is for the provision of a Managed Service and network connectivity to provide Wi-Fi in public buildings across the City.
The Council wishes to select a suitably qualified and experienced Tenderer to design, deploy and operate a Managed Wi-Fi Service across its property portfolio. This will serve to widen access to internet based services across the City, bridge the digital divide and aid social inclusion. This service will offer visitors access to a world class W-Fi facility in all public accessible spaces. Grant funding of up to £300k for wireless infrastructure and a further £300k for network connectivity is available from the Accelerate Aberdeen Super Connected Cities programme to fund capital investment. It is expected that the Tenderer will procure appropriate network connectivity to the sites as compliance and capacity issues means that the Council wishes this network to be separate from existing corporate circuits. Upon completion of a successful procurement process, the Council intends to award a 3 year contract (with options for further extension) to the Tenderer.
