Description
A key objective of both the Foundation and DfE is to boost the capacity and quality of the Further Education (FE) workforce by creating and supporting a new flow of teachers/trainers into FE, especially those with a subject specialism in Science, Engineering and Technology (SET).
A key objective of the MoD is to support the movement of service leavers into high quality second careers, where they will initially be supported and, as a consequence, thrive in this environment. Teaching in FE offers a sustainable career which utilises the expert technical knowledge and skills acquired and developed whilst serving within the military. An area of focus of Gatsby’s work includes supporting the provision of technical education and the provision of subject specialist mentors to support this area of focus.
Therefore, the primary function of this programme is to deliver a joint Gatsby/Foundation funded scheme, backed by MoD activity, implementing a programme of support and mentoring aimed at meeting the above key objectives of each of the stakeholders involved in establishing this programme for a minimum of 210 service leavers.
This programme is essentially a troop resettlement to education and training careers programme.
