Description of the goods or services required

This is phase one of an ambitious project to ensure the Moat Community Centre is a vibrant, thriving, inspiring facility that has a sustainable future serving the people of Rothesay, Bute and beyond.

Management of four Argyll & Bute Council owned community centres (in Campbeltown, Dunoon, Lochgilphead and Rothesay) was devolved to local voluntary Centre Associations around 30 years ago.

The community centres fulfil important roles in each of the four communities, each providing a slightly different range of provision including meeting spaces, sports facilities, computer facilities, crèches, nurseries, cafes, training rooms and other resources for dozens of community groups, public sector organisations and some of the area’s most vulnerable people.

The Moat Community Centre Association, which is made up of volunteers (mostly users of the centre), is committed to ensuring the long term viability of the Centre. The four Centre Associations have agreed to work in partnership to create individual business development plans and deliver the objectives identified in those plans. The four Centre Associations will learn from each other’s experiences and ensure a consistent approach to developing the Centres. Each has set up a working group to progress this project.

In order to continue to be viable, a radical and innovative business approach to providing community centre in Bute needs to be explored.

Key Aims of this Project which shall be delivered by the Consultant are:

1. To produce a business development plan for the Moat Community Centre ; and

2. To assist MCCA to deliver 2-3 objectives outlined in the plan that will generate additional income and/or reduce expenditure for the Association to invest in the facility and help ensure its ongoing viability.

This project is part funded by Awards for All Scotland, the Robertson Trust and the Argyll and the Islands LEADER Programme.
