Description of the contract

Background Our client requires a Change Manager for a 6 month contract based in Taunton. This role will be working to the Service & Support Manager within the Information Services Department, working with a current contract Change Manager, you will be responsible for providing guidance on, management and governance of all changes requested within the Change Team – from initial submission, through delivery and deployment to post implementation review. The key objective of the role being assuring operational stability through delivery of change to the IT infrastructure in a controlled fashion. The activities of the post focus around the management of non-standard changes, in order to avoid undesired consequences to extant services and to ensure anticipated benefits are realised. Main Duties/ Responsibilities • Acts as the key stakeholder (alongside a 2nd Change Manager) to the Business in delivering business changes, managing the process from request submission through to delivery in order to minimise the risks inherent in the implementation of non-standard change • Co-Chair of the CAB (alongside a 2nd Change Manager – with the chair likely to be alternated on a weekly basis to ensure stakeholders have visibility of authority of both posts). • Identifies Change Management requirements, documentation of those requirements and production of policy, processes, procedures working practices and supporting guidance to promote effective Change Management from concept to execution and review • Is expert in change management concepts and practices, for example experience in conducting impact analysis, chairing the Change Advisory Board, relapse readiness reviews, identification of threats to the delivery of change, establishment of change processes for different change classifications, etc. • Contributing to improving interfacing processes (this may be a stakeholder inputting into other processes or may be actually performing tasks to improve other processes) • Undertakes the planning, managing and monitoring the implementation of changes, including impact assessment, resource analysis conflict resolution and contingency planning. This includes a monthly ‘maintenance weekend’ (an agreed window of change with the business which contains a high level of change) • Has a sound understanding of the maintenance of infrastructure and applications, playing a significant role in the planning of significant maintenance activity. • Has expertise in industry best practice in IT Service Management • Has a sound understanding of the software and system delivery lifecycles, ensuring change process and procedures adapt to the requirements of these activities within our client • Develops an awareness of the products delivered by our client and how the availability of IT systems supports those • Displays an understanding of the control and management of configuration items, including hardware, software, documentation, service, suppliers and network facilities by the use and application of strict change management and recording. • Produces reports and management information on the delivery of change control within our client , using that information to refine processes and drive improvements to the delivery of change • Uses appropriate tools, such as Axios Assyst or Centennial or similar products for the recording, progressing and reporting of change requests and modifications to CIs • Is capable in methods and techniques for risk management, business impact analysis, countermeasures and contingency arrangements relating to the serious disruption of IT services • Continuous improvement of Change Management, including Forward Schedule of Change, CAB, the actual Change Process, use of the Service Management tool Outputs/ Deliverables to be achieved – Continuous Improvement of the Change Management process Current working examples are investigation of optimum change windows and investigation into improving the current Impact Analysis task – Rationalisation of Change Management documentation (e.g. Impact Analysis, Release Plans) to minimise bureaucracy whilst marinating the high standards and requirements of Change Management – On going BAU management of changes (Categorisation of change, CAB’s, Emergency Changes etc) Skills/ Experience Required Essential • Customer-focussed delivery of IT-based services. • The delivery of people-oriented change initiatives. • Excellent inter-personal/communication/influencing skills • Is expert in change management concepts and practices, for example experience in conducting impact analysis, chairing the Change Advisory Board, relapse readiness reviews, identification of threats to the delivery of change, establishment of change processes for different change classifications, etc • Experience of implementation changes to processes involving multiple stakeholder groups • Production of Management Information (MI) and use of MI in improving\managing processes Desirable • Knowledge of configuration & release management best practice • Knowledge of Risk Management Formal Qualifications Required Essential • ITIL Change Management or Service Transition at a practitioner level Desirable • ITIL Managers certificate (V2 or V3)
