The construction of our new iconic building to house the Faculty of Engineering and Computing (ECB) at Coventry University is nearing completion, and the faculty is due to move into the new building in the summer of 2012. The lower two floors of the building are dedicated to specialist laboratories, workshop areas and a machining centre. To equip this centre and make it the focus of a high performance engineering centre, the faculty intends to purchase a range of high performance computer numerical controlled (CNC) machine tools.
These tools will be able to accommodate skilled machinists and students with little or no experience, and have links to design software and metrology.

To equip this centre and make it the focus of a high performance engineering centre, the faculty intends to purchase a range of high performance computer numerical controlled (CNC) machine tools. These tools will be able to accommodate skilled machinists and students with little or no experience, and have links to design software and metrology.
The successful supplier will be expected to form strong links with the faculty to ensure that the facility remains a showcase for their products, and continues to support the teaching and research within the faculty. This leads to general and specific requirements outlined in part 5 of the invitation to tender (ITT) document.
The successful supplier must present a solution that will allow individual students to gain access to the control programming and verification system independently of the physical machine tool control, preferably through simulator units and software that can be used on an individual student basis.
