The project is to construct a new five storey research facility for the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences with 11,260 m² gross internal floor area and 7,015 m² net internal area. This new building links to the existing sports centre at what will be a shared atrium. The project also involves construction of a separate 2 storey Energy Centre remote from the new building but still within the site ‘red line’ boundary. This will provide energy to the Health and Life Science quadrant. Finally there will be landscaping of the external works and courtyard areas.
The design and build project comprises of the following high level activities:
— Site clearance and earthworks to the existing car park.
— Piled foundations;
— Reinforced concrete superstructure;
— Façade and roofing;
— Tie in to existing entrance/southern façade of existing Sports Centre;
— Internal fit out;
— Installation of loose furniture and specialist equipment;
— Installation and commissioning of building services;
— External works including soft and hard landscaping.
Estimated value excluding VAT: 33 300 000 GBP
