Description of the contract

The London Borough of Camden invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified contractors with appropriate experience who wish to be considered for the following contracts; • Repair and Sustainability works to 12 schools – 3 separate contracts. • Construction of a new nursery block at Richard Cobden school using a prefabricated sustainable construction system – 1 contract. The Contracts The works will divided into 3 contracts for the repairs and sustainability works, on a geographical basis and comprising broadly similar values. The new nursery project will be let as a separate contract based on the different scope of work, procurement and programme. Contracts will be as follows; Condition and sustainability works: Contract 1 – North and West (of Borough) Approx. value £1.68m at four schools and one Nursery, including new windows, boilers, fabric and services repairs and renewals, rewiring. Contract 2 – Central. Approx. value £2.1m at three schools including new windows, boilers, fabric and services repairs and renewals, rewiring. Contract 3 – South. Approx. value £2.2m at three schools including new windows, boilers, fabric and services repairs and renewals, rewiring. New Nursery at Richard Cobden School: Contract 4 – Design and construction of new nursery at Richard Cobden school using a prefabricated sustainable construction system, anticipated to comprise straw bale cladding, demolition of existing and hard landscaping. Approx. value £0.5m Contractors may indicate with their submission if they have a preference for any of the packages but the Council does not undertake to invite tenders on this basis. Contractors should also indicate any packages they do not wish to tender for or for which they do not have the correct credentials. The Council reserves the right to award a successful tenderer not more than one contract. All repairs and sustainability contracts will be procured under the JCT Intermediate Building Contract with Contractor’s Design 2011 and sectional completion. The new nursery will be procured under the JCT Design and Build Contract 2011. Timetable Tenders will be sought in April 2012, with a start on site date for the contract of 23rd July 2012. The majority of the work for the three condition and sustainability contracts will be required to be completed before 31st August 2012 (i.e. during the school summer holidays), although some works will extend into term time; the total contract period for each of these contracts will be approximately 14 weeks. The contract for the new nursery at Richard Cobden school will probably not be required to be carried out during the summer holidays; the contract period will be approximately 16 weeks but further details will be included in the invitation to tender. Selection Criteria Contractors applying for selection must demonstrate their capability to undertake the project scope for the package/s they are applying for. This will be assessed from contractors’ responses to the prequalification questionnaire. Please note that in order to be considered for invitation to tender for a contract a contractor will be required to have a turnover during its most recent accounting year of at least twice the value of the contract in question. Contractors will also be required to have and maintain public and employer’s liability insurance of £10 million per claim or series of claims arising out of one event and professional indemnity insurance of £2 million.
