Description of the contract

The transport of deceased adults, infants and foetus’ within the locations of East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust and to London based hospitals. During winter months the Trust can have a considerably reduced capacity to store bodies at either William Harvey Hospital or Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital. In the event of reduced capacity, Trust mortuary staff at either site will contact the contractor to have the bodies transferred between Trust sites for storage, this point of contact may be made 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. On very infrequent occasions bodies may require transport to London. In addition the Trust has a regular requirement for the transport of foetus’ and placentas the Royal Whitechapel Hospital in London, this service can be required as many as two times a week. Trust mortuary staff at either site will contact the contractor to advise on the quantity and location of delivery. The provider shall provide chauffer driven transportation services with appropriate vehicle suitable for transporting the following: 01. Deceased bodies (small bodies to bariatric bodies) 02. Foetus’ 03. Such other bodies The provider shall transport one or more bodies, provide additional support workers as per the Trust’s request.
