Description of the contract
The General Dental Council (“GDC”) is the regulator of the dental profession in the UK. Our statutory purpose is to regulate dental professionals in the United Kingdom. All dentists, dental nurses, dental technicians, clinical dental technicians, dental hygienists, dental therapists and orthodontic therapists must be registered with us to work in the UK. As part of our duty to protect the public, if a dentist or dental care professional falls seriously short of the standards expected of them we can either remove them from the Register, or restrict what they can do professionally. These powers, given to us by Parliament, cover all registered dentists and dental care professionals whether they’re working in the NHS or in private practice. When a patient or a member of the public has a concern about the standard of a dental professional’s practise, they can raise this with the GDC. The GDC will undertake to investigate serious matters which may pose a risk to public protection or public confidence in the profession. The GDC is looking to enter into a term contract with a specialist provider of investigation services to support our investigative processes. The chosen provider will have a proven track record of conducting investigations within a regulatory and prosecution environment. Full details of our requirements are set out in the tender documents.
