As part of its Residential Housing Development, Midlothian Council aims to provide in the region of 350-400 housing units throughout Midlothian (excluding sites currently under construction) together with associated infrastructure, utilities and ground-works by the end of 2017. The next phase of construction works will commence in early 2014. Units will comprise flats, studio flats, houses and elements of refurbishment of existing properties (where appropriate) and these will be procured utilising the most economical and advantageous procurement route to suit the size, location and specific properties. The phasing of builds and the variety of sites and build types mean that the Council has elected to put in place a framework of contractors with appropriate skills and capability, with the contracts for each site being awarded on the basis of a competition between framework providers on the appropriate lot with the exception of the initial 4 sites that will be tendered by contractors for a place on the framework. These 4 sites will be awarded based on framework tender submissions.
