Description of the contract

Background Our client is currently recruiting for a qualified Solicitor / Lawyer, this is a part time role for 3 months+, ideally four days per week but there is some flexibility with this. The role is based in Leeds. Main Duties/ Responsibilities You will be working in a small and friendly but professional and highly committed legal team, engaged both in prosecuting the various offences and advising on the deployment of the clients other various enforcement tools. The principal responsibilities are as follows: • Conduct of the most serious cases, including allegations under the Theft and Fraud Acts; • Advising on the investigation of cases, when unusual issues relating to law and evidence arise; • Management of a team of two paralegals and two legal assistants who process the bulk of routine summary cases; • Oversight of agent solicitors who provide advocacy services to the Agency; • Advising on use of the client’s non-criminal enforcement tools such as securing court charging orders with a view to sale of properties or seeking civil committal orders, including advising on complex and high profile cases; • Active involvement in the provision of support and delivery of enforcement training to caseworkers; Skills/ Experience Required • Have a excellent knowledge of criminal law and practice and be experienced in managing a case load (essential); • Have a good working knowledge of civil debt enforcement in the magistrates and county courts; • Be able to quickly assimilate new areas of law; • Possess strong analytical skills and powers of written and oral communication; • Have sound practical judgement, flexibility and a capacity to translate legal requirements into manageable tasks for lay colleagues; • An understanding of and an ability to contribute to wider corporate issues; • Display honesty, integrity and probity; • Possess a personal demeanour that inspires confidence and loyalty; • Demonstrate empathy and understanding of the key issues impacting the Commission; • Have a demonstrable understanding of equality and diversity issues and how they impact on colleagues and on service delivery. Formal Qualifications Required You must be a solicitor or barrister qualified to practice in England and Wales (ideally 2+ years PQE)
