The University of Manchester is looking to improve its research information systems capability to support achievement of the University of Manchester Strategic 2020 Plan to:
Achieve research of the highest quality.
Support and develop excellence in people.
Have an impact beyond academia, which yields economic, social and cultural benefits.
In addition to meeting our 2020 goals and supporting the actions within our research strategy there are some key requirements the organisation needs to address:
Achieve optimal public accessibility for our research outputs and information about our research impact.
Support the transition to open access publishing models for research.
Improve our ability to monitor and refine research support business processes and service quality.
In order to monitor and support our performance against key performance indicators, intervening where necessary in a timely fashion, we will need robust research information that is more transparent, integrated and accessible than we can currently obtain.
The system must be able to improve our capacity to record, report, analyse and disseminate information across the full lifecycle of research activity from research inputs, through transactions and business processes to outputs, outcomes and impact.
There are four broad areas the CRIS should address:
Research application initiation and parallel approval workflows.
Research awards management.
Research profile and publication management.
Research activity business intelligence.

This is a pre-tender engagement is to assist in the scoping of approach to market for the required project.
