Description of the contract

Our client is currently recruiting for a Data Modelling Officer, based in London for an initial 6 month contract. This post will be in a Broadband Delivery Programme which was established to lead on delivery of the best broadband network in Europe by 2015. Main Duties/ Responsibilities You will report to the company’s Modelling and Statistics Lead and will provide support to the rest of the company and to external partners on data and modelling regarding broadband and mobile coverage. You will be responsible for: 1. Maintaining and updating the client’s geospatial postcode cost model for roll-out of broadband across the UK (a combination of Excel and MapInfo files) to ensure inputs and assumptions remain up to date. 2. Extending model to handle issues such as Exchange-Only lines, FTTP, long lines, etc. systematically. 3. Revising model to reflect information learnt during early local procurements and building a shadow BT cost model. 4. Improving model to reflect urban broadband issues and assist urban projects 5. Undertaking due diligence of modelling by others (e.g. Atkins for Highland & Islands Enterprise, or BT). 6. Modelling and analysing Ofcom mobile infrastructure data to influence optimal distribution and sizes of masts and other solutions. 7. Responding to ad-hoc requests for speculative analyses. Outputs/ Deliverables to be achieved • Reports and data provided for users in the company and local partnerships in a timely way and to a high degree of quality, within the constraints of the data and model Skills/ Experience Required Essential: • Analysis & use of evidence skills • High level of numeracy and ability to spot and investigate anomalies • Excel skills: ability to handle large and complex linked spreadsheets and macros • Mapping skills and experience (preferably MapInfo) • Project management skills Desirable: • Understanding and experience of broadband and mobile network issues • Financial modelling experience
