Swansea Council has published this prior information notice (‘PIN’) to seek to establish market options for support to migrate services from the current in house DC to a new DC located within the City Centre.
Swansea Council is comprised of three networks, corporate (324 servers), education (100 servers) and library (4 servers) with the majority being Microsoft Windows Server 2012 and 2016. There is a small mix of previous Microsoft Server editions and some Linux systems. A number of POC’s are progressing to the Council’s Azure cloud environment to make it a viable migration and hosting location.
The current DC is configured into 34 racks with a mixture of infrastructure all reaching the end of operational life. Swansea Council also has a secondary server room located at the Guildhall building situated a mile away from the Civic Centre. This provides communications to the main DC, server and storage replication services.
A suitably refurbished DC in a different location is to be used by the Council. The migration needs to be completed by December 2023. The Council will consider using a hybrid approach of new on premise and cloud infrastructure to migrate and maintain ongoing services at the new DC.
