Event Title: Moving and Handling – Bariatric Module

Target Group: Occupational therapists

Number of staff to be trained per event: 20 (10 per day)

Number and length of events: Full day x 2

Dates if known: Sept – Nov (Not 21st – 25th Oct)

Venue if known: Leicester (TBC)

Summary/Overview/Background:

To promote awareness and increase confidence levels in OT staff working with Bariatric service users in the City of Leicester. More specialist information on Bariatric Moving and Handling techniques is required, which will help OT staff to deal with and minimise risk to the service user and themselves in the community.

Objectives:
– Increase staff awareness and confidence levels in this area – defining the term ‘Bariatric’
Look at and review legal obligations and professional responsibilities
– Ensure staff/service users are not so likely to be injured by the work they do
– Enable staff to identify potential risks, to be encouraging independence where possible and to recognise the importance of and develop good communication with Bariatric service users
– Enable staff to recognise and use correct moving and handling techniques with Bariatric service users
– To consider appropriate and safe use of bariatric equipment for different Bariatric body types
– To promote awareness of moving and handling solutions to potential problems when working with Bariatric service users

Materials:

– If the Training Course is accompanied by supporting material, printing will need to be managed by the Provider.
– Any materials should also be provided electronically so that it can be used as a reference point.

Interview Date(s), if required: W/C 26th August.

Contract Length: The contract allows for repeat commissions within a 3 year period with options to extend for +1 + 1 years at the sole discretion of the Council.

Training Providers Agreement: You must ensure you are able to meet the requirements in the attached Training Providers Agreement as the successful supplier will be required to sign it when the contract is agreed.
