Dementia Awareness Training Project

Overview
Bracknell Forest Council wants to support the local community to become more dementia friendly. This means that people throughout the community understand dementia and know how to interact with and support people with dementia and their carers when they are out and about. In addition, environments throughout the community, such as shops and restaurants, are designed with consideration for the needs of people with dementia. After consulting local people with dementia and their carers, raising awareness of dementia throughout the community has been identified as a priority. In particular, people with dementia have said that being able to access shops and transport provision which is run by people who understand dementia and know how to help is important.
Service requirements
Bracknell Forest Council is looking for an organisation to co-ordinate the provision of dementia awareness training throughout the borough with a focus on retail and transport providers.
Dementia awareness training will be delivered to customer facing staff teams throughout the community who will then be better able to support people with dementia.
This training will be publicised throughout the community and organisations encouraged to book these training sessions which will be available at no charge to the organisations.
The format and context of training sessions will require advance approval of the Council, and the sessions are likely to last a maximum of half a day to encourage businesses to engage.
Progress will be fed back to the Bracknell Forest Dementia Partnership Board on a bi-monthly basis.
Outcome
By April 2014, 25 community based organisations within Bracknell Forest will have completed this dementia awareness training.
Budget
The overall budget for this project is £26,000 which includes project co-ordination, publicity and the training itself.
Organisations can base their RFQ on either of the following:-
·         Providing the co-ordination and publicity themselves, but organising the training from a separate provider
·         Providing the co-ordination, publicity and the training
