Description of the contract

The London Borough of Camden is carrying out a market engagement exercise on the proposal to tender community based dementia services to a new contract to start on 1st July 2014. It is anticipated that the contract(s) will be for an initial period of five years with the option for two extensions of one year each. These are a range of services which give people with dementia more choice and control over their lives. In this exercise, they include specialist dementia day opportunities, dementia befriending and dementia advisers. These services play an important part in supporting people to maximise independence and engage in activities which are personally meaningful and stimulating. Service 1: Raglan House (in Kentish Town) and Netherwood (in Kilburn) are the building bases for specialist day opportunities for people with advanced dementia. Customers will have critical or substantial needs under Fair Access to Care Services, and will pay for their service via a personal budget. The Council commissions 290 places per week across both centres. The management of these services is delegated to Camden & Islington NHS Foundation Trust under a Section 75 agreement. Service 2: This service provides consistent contact and befriending support to isolated people with dementia. Volunteer befrienders support individuals with all levels of dementia to engage in activities inside or outside the home; whilst providing a consistent and sometimes long term link for them and their carers. This service is NHS-funded, people will not pay for the service through personal budgets and may not have substantial or critical needs under FACS. Service 3: This service provides high-quality information and signposting to people with dementia, their carers and families after diagnosis. The aim of the dementia adviser service is to provide people with a named contact throughout their journey with dementia. Support provided through these services enable people with dementia to continue to participate in mainstream community life and live well with dementia for as long as possible. Prior to tendering these services we wish to consult with the market about our proposals. We would be grateful if interested organisations could complete a questionnaire and return it to us. Please request a questionnaire by e-mail to inez.cifuentes@camden.gov.uk. Please submit your response by the close of business on 10 April 2013.
