The works are located on a brownfield site (Car Parking), off Yeadon Way, Blackpool, UK. The site is bound by car parking to the North, Yeadon Way public highway to the East, car parking, petrol filling station, restaurant and hotel to the South and Railway Line to the West. The Works will encompass all necessary site preparation, infrastructure and construction of a new build Energy Headquarters (EHQ) including the associated external works, hard and soft landscaping. Construction operations adjacent to a live railway will be subject to strict protocol of approvals from, and liaison with, Network Rail.
The new build EHQ building will provide the 1st phase of a state-of-the-art training facility for a comprehensive suite of courses to meet the needs of employers and their supply chains working in the growing energy sector. The building will be formed via a double height space with curved roof to the rear and 2 storey space with flat roof to the front. The building will be of steel frame construction on a piled foundation solution with a ground floor concrete slab. The external envelope will be a combination of blockwork and SFS solution with a composite aluminium rain-screen panel for the external cladding alongside curtain walling/glazing. The curved roof will be aluminium standing seam with the flat roof as a composite single ply roof system.
The workshops under the curved roof element will accommodate specialist high skills practical training for the Renewables and Oil/Gas/Wind sectors. The 2 storey element to the front will accommodate teaching classrooms, staff and administration facilities, ancillary spaces, a kitchen + supporting spaces, a double height refectory and a double height atrium. Mechanical and Electrical installations will be in keeping with typical workshop accommodation and specialist extract systems, radiant panels and high bay lighting. Low Zero Carbon Technologies will be required to meet the building performance standards and will include (but are not limited to) Photovoltaics, Solar thermal and a Wind Turbine.
The building will be required to achieve BREEAM Excellent under BREEAM 2014, and will require robust permeability details to the façade.
