Merseytravel operates the two road tunnels on Merseyside, the Kingsway Tunnel and the Queensway Tunnel. The existing lighting of the tunnel approach roads and toll plaza areas consists of 50 high mast lighting columns which are life expired being approx 40 years old.
Merseytravel has prepared an outline design for the replacement of these existing high mast lighting columns with approx 170 new 12m and 18m fixed lighting columns with a further 60 wall mounted lights, utilising a mixture light fittings ranging from 70W metal halide to 400W Son lamps.
Merseytravel is seeking suitably experienced contractors to develop this outline design and prepare the detailed electrical and lighting design specification and all associated civil engineering works inclusive of column installation details and new cable routing details for Merseytravel approval and then to manage the supply and installation of the new equipment with the removal of the redundant high mast equipment once the new lighting is commissioned.
The contractor will also be responsible for ensuring that the lighting levels achieve the required standards as specified in BS 5489 (Road Lighting). The contractor will be responsible for the site management including setting up of safe systems of work and associated traffic management
