Description of the contract

Apsley House, popularly known as ‘Number One London’ was the home of the First Duke of Wellington after his victory over Napoleon at Waterloo in 1815. The interior of the house has changed very little since those days. The house has one of the finest art collections in London, with paintings by Velazquez and Rubens as well as a wonderful collection of silver and porcelain. The Dukes of Wellington still live at the house today. We are currently engaged in several projects to improve the house and its interpretation in time for the 200 year anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo on 18th June 2015. As well as conservation work, this will see the reinterpretation of rooms through room folders and the multimedia guide. The interpretation project forms parts of the Waterloo 200 project which will see the reinterpretation of Walmer Castle, where the First Duke of Wellington died and an exhibition on the battle at nearby Wellington Arch. There will be five different tours: 1. A highlights tour 2. The same highlights tour, translated into a European language 3. A children’s tour 4. An art lover’s tour 5. The First Duke and his social circle tour English Heritage is inviting tenders from companies interested in creating the multimedia guides for the site, and leasing them.
