Description of the contract

Leicester City Council’s Economic Regeneration Team are looking for a Service Provider to deliver an Apprenticeship Scheme to Tackle Youth Unemployment. As part of the City Mayor’s Economic Action Plan, a series of initiatives are being developed under the banner of ‘Leicester to Work’, designed in particular to tackle youth unemployment. One key strand of that activity is to encourage the development of apprenticeships. Although apprentice numbers have grown in recent years, Leicester lags behind comparator cities, particularly in regard to the number of younger apprentices. Working with partner agencies, including the National Apprenticeship Service the council has developed an apprenticeship strategy and is already doing a number of things to boost apprenticeship starts. These include: • Employing more apprentices directly. • Facilitating apprenticeship recruitment events for major employers. • Using procurement and planning powers to lever apprenticeships (and other economic benefits) from construction schemes. • Developing a programme of financial incentives to complement national government programmes to further stimulate demand for apprenticeships from local businesses. • Simplifying and consolidating information about apprenticeships for both employers and potential apprentices. Interested Organisations should download the tender document and follow the tendering instructions.
