Description of the contract

This tender is for the provision and installation of a cinema quality digital projection system. A key driver for this requirement is the enhancement of the teaching and learning experience of the Department’s students by providing film screenings that precisely replicate the cinematic experience. The Department has a history of screening films in their original format, hiring 35mm prints where available. The replacement of 35mm with digital formats has meant that new facilities are required. Importantly, the new digital projection system will offer a minimum of 2K resolution and thus is specifically aligned with the “cinematic” market area rather than more generalist audio visual projection. We do not intend to go into 3D projection at this time. A further key driver of this requirement is to create a flagship D Cinema within the Department in order to aid undergraduate and post-graduate recruitment by further expanding the Department’s excellent facilities. The new 2K digital projection system will have to work alongside the department’s current capacity to screen 16mm and 35mm prints. The multi-purpose nature of the intended location for the digital projection system means that the new system will have to be compatible with and interconnected to some existing equipment.
