Description of the contract

RAF Lyneham is the current custodian for the Gate Guardian, Comet C2 XK699. The aircraft was gifted to the RAF Museum by the RAF in 1967 and was placed in storage at RAF Henlow as part of the Museum’s reserve collection. In 1986, the RAF took the aircraft back on charge. Following a repaint, in 1987, it was moved by road from Henlow to Lyneham for display as a Gate Guardian. The requirement is for dismantling and relocating the Comet C2 XK699 to RAF Museum Cosford embracing the following stages: a. Moving the aircraft from its current location to a suitable hard standing. b. Dismantling the aircraft to allow for road move: removal of engines, flight controls, tail section and wings (including undercarriage). The aircraft shall be dismantled in such a manner that it can be reassembled and refurbished at the destination. c. Packaging of components for transportation. d. Transportation of the aircraft to RAF Museum Cosford.
