Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council are seeking to appoint two or more suitably qualified and experience household residual waste and recycling companies for the treatment and disposal of residual household waste.
The contract is opened to be used by both Doncaster and Rotherham Borough Councils should these councils wish to meet their requirements through this procurement.
All three organisations have similar requirements but the evaluation of the tender will be performed solely on the anticipated volumes of Barnsley Council alone (up to 50 000 tonnes per annum).
However potential volumes, should all three councils participate in the contract could be as high as 135 000 tonnes per annum with an approximate value in the region of 30 000 000 GBP over the life of the contract.
The values and quantities quoted are for information only, the actual tonnage will vary throughout the contract. Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council gives no guaranteed tonnage through the contract.

Description of these options: The contract will be for an initial period of 27 months with an option to extend for further period of 12 months at the discretion.
The initial term and subsequent extensions will be subject to the contractual commitments of the authority with regard to the BDR Waste Partnership PFI contract. The planned service commencement date for the BDR Waste Partnership PFI Project Facility is July 2015.

Description of particular conditions: The contract is intended to reduce the volume of waste currently being sent to landfill by Barnsley MBC. All suppliers are required to evidence their disposal streams in regular reports back to the council.
