Description of the contract

Parliamentary Estate London Over the course of the previous 2 years, an extensive programme of surveying and jetting has taken place on the existing drainage system (above and below ground) across the entire Parliamentary Estate. This programme has examined most of the drainage installations within the Estate and has currently identified over 500 areas which require an element of repair. These 500 areas have been classified as either ‘amber’ or ‘red’ – the items classified as ‘red’ are in need of urgent repair and there are currently 60 of these items on the schedule. Although each repair item is likely to be unique, the general principles of the works can be summarised into the following broad categories: • Drainage pipe work which requires excavation and complete replacement (some of these pipes are over 6m below ground level, and many will be beneath the basement floor), • Manholes which require excavation, repair and possible replacement, • Pipe work which requires specialist cleaning (de-scaling) to remove blockages, and / or lining, • Those items of repair which are at this stage unknown and will only become apparent when the area is excavated. It should also be noted that the required excavations will be taking place in areas such as the basement, access roads, grassed areas and pavements in a high profile ,secure, fully occupied building and courtyards and will therefore require very careful planning, programming and consideration. Due to logistical issues, it is likely that this programme of works will take between 18-24 months to complete.
