Title of the contract
C1 Driver Training for the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust
Description of the contract

The NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership hosted by Velindre NHS Trust and tendering on behalf of the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust is seeking tenders from suitably qualified organisations to provide category C1 driver training to Ambulance students currently without this category.

Category C1 is a legal requirement for staff to drive vehicles over 3500kgs. Since 01/01/97 individuals who passed their Department of Transport Test would not have been awarded the C1 category. Due to changes in vehicles/equipment purchased and increased weight requirements the Trust must provide training to all eligible students without C1.

The Trust wishes to identify independent providers to provide a one week C1 driving licence category training programme for up to 20 students per year. The course must comply with the objectives set out by the Driving Standards Agency and must enable the student to attempt their C1 driving test at the end of each one week course.

The provider will be expected to deliver the training in their own vehicles which will have the appropriate insurance and vehicle maintenance schedules. A full copy of the provider’s training package should be available to the Trust.

The initial training course is likely to take place at the Trust’s Central & West headquarters in Swansea however, training may also be required at any Trust location throughout Wales. All bidders should therefore be prepared and able to provide training throughout Wales.

Any questions in relation to the requirement or the tender process should be directed through the messaging section of the e-tender portal. All questions received will be responded to. If the question is pertinent to other submissions, then the question and answer will be provided to all bidders.
