Description
This is to further enhance the ecological condition of Puxton Marsh and surrounding areas of wetland. By reducing tree cover we will be returning this area to a mosaic of open wetland habitats, linking Puxton Marshes to surrounding wetlands and improving the hydrology throughout the system. Puxton and Stourvale marshes of Special Scientific Interest form part of a large fragment of wetland along the River Stour corridor in Kidderminster. While some of this wetland is of high quality, some has been left unmanaged for over twenty years and has been over-grown by Crack willow. Excessive Tree cover has caused shading and exacerbated issues with hydrology across the site. Protected species may be present on site, therefore an ecological assessment by a licensed ecologies will be needed and this will need to inform the working methodology. Access routes for vehicles will need to be pre-planned with Wyre Forest and adhered to, when it is necessary to access wetter areas bog mats will need to be deployed by the contractor. Public safety is paramount as this site is mostly open access for the public. The second part of this work will be to create new sections of pathway to allow users to enjoy the site without entering the most sensitive areas.
