In total, the museum project will cost circa 18 000 000 GBP and once opened it is estimated it will almost double the number of visitors to the GCR from 130 000 to 250 000, create an additional 10 full time jobs within the railway, support a further 700 jobs across Leicestershire, contribute 39 000 000 GBP to the local economy and provide 100 new volunteering opportunities.
The museum building will be of the highest quality and striking visual impact, the interior will be required to embed the best exhibition design suited to the display, conservation and enhancement of a wide variety of exhibits associated with the railway related stories emerging from the consultation process. A principle aim
is to ensure that the museum fulfills the needs of its audience and delivers sustainable benefits to the wider community.

The GCR is seeking to appoint a qualified Exhibition Design team with experience in Museum development, ideally across multi-million pound projects. Previous experience in managing a HLF funded project through its various stages would be an advantage.
The Exhibition Designers will work closely with the current project team, in particular liaising with the Technical Project Manager, Programme Manager, Content Development Consultant and Head Curator to ensure that the exhibition design work is various work streams successfully interface and feed into both the exhibition and building design work.
This tender will be let in two parts, 1. Development Stage services and 2.Delivery Stage services. The Delivery Stage Services will be required if the project is successful in securing funding from the HLF from its Round
2 application. In the event the bid fails to attract funding on satisfactory terms from HLF then there will be no further requirement for consultant services and the appointment under this agreement will be determined. The total Development Stage costs are 1 097 338 GBP. GCR has been granted 494 500 GBP from the HLF and
has matched this with 323 000 GBP from its own funds. The remaining 279 888 GBP consists of in-kind/non-cash contributions and volunteer time.
The total cost of the Delivery Stage is 16 680 859 GBP.
The HLF has earmarked 9 504 900 GBP leaving 5 370 084 GBP cash match funding to be secured and a further 1 805 875 GBP in non-cash/in-kind and volunteer time contribution.
The total project cost is circa 17 800 000 GBP.
