Extra Care Housing provides a preventative approach to supporting people to retain independence, choice and control and provides a viable alternative to residential care home placements, key elements of Extra Care schemes include:
— security of tenure deriving either from an assured tenancy or lease with the right to control access to their own property;
— independent living by providing individually tenanted and self-contained accommodation and services that are tailored to be flexible and responsive to changing need;
— the option to provide opportunities for social interaction and community engagement;
— an ethos that promotes self-determination, enabling and independence;
— a model of supported housing rather than residential care.
Care is to be provided within a number of Lots of pre-existing Extra Care schemes. They are:
Lot 1:
— Springbank Court, Blackburn;
— St Margaret’s Court, Blackburn;
Lot 2:
— Kingsway, Blackburn;
Lot 3:
— Cotton Spinners Court, Darwen;
— Hindle Court, Darwen;
— Lees Court, Darwen;
— Pembroke Court, Darwen.
Provision of extra care at the 7 schemes (split into the above 3 Lots) will require day time care support to individual tenants based on commissioned need, responses to care requests when a pull cord or handset is triggered and night time care cover across the schemes.
