Description of the contract

Suffolk Coastal District Council (SCDC) is seeking to engage a suitably qualified and experienced Contractor to undertake the construction phase of its Felixstowe Seafront Gardens Restoration Project from RIBA Stage J (Mobilization) through to RIBA Stage L (completion on site). The Contractor will work alongside the Client Project Manager for the Felixstowe Seafront Gardens Restoration Project and the project team consisting of the Lead Consultant and Design Team (Mott MacDonald Ltd) and the Cost Consultant (Gleeds Cost Management Ltd). The project has received support from Heritage Lottery Fund – details can be seen on SCDC’s website – www.suffolkcoastal.gov.uk/yourdistrict/felixstowefutures/seafrontgardens/ It is envisaged that work on site will commence in April 2013 and will be undertaken under the NEC3 ECC Option A form of Contract. In recognition of the heritage value of Felixstowe Seafront Gardens, they were awarded a Grade II designation within the English Heritage Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in 2003. The main aims of the project are to: • Restore structures and enhance heritage features, including the creation of a new public shelter • Enhance interpretation, signage and learning opportunities • Improve furniture, lighting and seating • Encourage ecological diversity • Reinstate and enhance horticultural/historic garden interest • Provide a new heritage trail • Create improved public space • Enhance community safety • Improve accessibility and legibility of the gardens
