Fire Upgrading Works to School Properties within Edinburgh – Phase 4

2.2

Description of the goods or services required

The City of Edinburgh Council wishes to appoint a suitably experienced and competent Main Contractor to undertake Phase 4 of the Fire Upgrading Works for school properties within Edinburgh.

Work comprises of fitting of new fire doors and alteration to existing doors, including new ironmongery and glazing to achieve improved fire resistance. There will also be alterations to existing fire alarm and emergency lighting systems to some schools. Other schools will require new fire alarms and emergency lighting and existing systems stripped out once new systems are fully operational.

Works will be executed out with school hours but the properties will still have after school clubs and other community groups using the building.

This project will be notifiable to HSE and that the contractor will be expected to take on the role of Principal Contractor in terms of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007.

Works are expected to commence in May 2012.

The estimated cost of the work is £430,00 – £460,000.

Relevant knowledge and experience of works similar in size and complexity. Organisations must be able to demonstrate they have the capability/capacity, organisational and financial standing to meet the requirements of the project.
