Forth Replacement Crossing – Structural alteration works on existing building 973 at Port of Rosyth, Scotland

The main cable-stayed bridge will be supported by three single 200m high towers within the Firth of Forth estuary with a span of 650m between them. The bridge deck consists of a single steel-concrete composite box and will carry two lanes of general traffic and hard shoulders in each direction.

Expressions of interest are required for the structural alteration works for an existing industrial building for the above mentioned project. The building has previously been used as a storage area for stacking of materials. After modification the building will be used as a casting shed for the construction of the deck segments for the above mentioned project.

The existing building is located within the boundary of Forth Ports in Rosyth on the south side of Keith Road. It is a steel portal frame building of four clear spans and eight parallel frames with overall dimensions of 143m x 57m.

The following works have to be carried out by the subcontractor:

– Relocation of existing air units on steel structure on the south side on the existing building

– Detailed design, fabrication and erection of Structural Steelwork including temporary works

– Creating of new large openings (including removal of cladding, masonry walls, existing bracings and structural elements as well installation of new structural elements and bracings) on the south side, three large and two small, and an additional on the west side of the existing building

– Removal of existing cladding and appropriately finished at and around all openings in order to deliver a weatherproof building

– Different small reinforced concrete works

– Construction of ground beam for new doors/gates (concrete works)

– Delivery and installation of suitable horizontally openings doors/gates

– Delivery and installation of two 5 ton cranes; goliath type, floor running.

As built drawings of the existing building are available. Design, general arrangement drawings and details for the structural alteration works already have been carried out by an engineering department. Design and detailing of all connections shall be carried out by the Subcontractor. The structural steelworks shall be in accordance with BS 449 “The Use of Structural Steel in Building” or BS 5950 “Structural Use of Steelwork in Buildings” as appropriate.

The works have to be carried out from July/August 2012 till November/December 2012.

Applicants shall provide a capability statement demonstrating experience of structural alteration works (structural steelworks) on existing building in the UK. Applicants shall also complete the attached Subcontractor Questionnaire and return to the email address noted above. The documentation required must be completed and returned to FCBC prior to the PCs closing date.
