Essential skills

We are seeking to recruit for 2 posts – one junior GIS Consultant and one GIS consultant for a start in January 2012 for 3 months. Please see below for brief job specifications for both roles.

Junior GIS Consultant

We require a junior GIS consultant to quality control metadata records managed in an ArcIMS environment. Familiarity with ArcCatalog and knowledge of metadata standards would be an advantage. Working closely with a senior member of the GIS team, existing records will need to be quality assured using templates in ArcCatalog.

GIS Consultant

We are seeking an innovative and experienced consultant with detailed knowledge of ESRI desktop GIS, FME and Python software to work with our team to identify areas where routine data management processes can be streamlined or automated. Working closely with the data team, the contractor will be expected to analyse existing data management processes and suggest and implement technical solutions that will lead to efficiencies.

The consultant may also be required in an advisory role to provide advice on alternative open source solutions in support of our data management, so that we can improve our external data and information provision that aims to meet current and future government policies with regards transparency and access to information.

Both candidates will be detail oriented and have strong data literacy with experience across a broad range of desktop GIS software, databases and related tools. Excellent people skills are essential as is the ability to produce high quality, accurate work and be prepared to share knowledge and skills with others to ensure continuity and resilience of solutions.

The position will be based in Cardiff, though flexibility in work location is possible.

Previous experience of working on projects for the public sector is desirable.
