The aim of the Home Improvement Agency service is contribute to the delivery of the council’s Sustainable Community Strategy. This will be done by providing an integrated housing support service for all residents, working with them and their families regardless of tenure, providing a single point of contact and seamless coordination of services. This will enable those in need of support to maintain their independence, health and well-being in their chosen home for as long as possible. This may include older people, people on low incomes, disabled children, young people and adults and other groups determined by local circumstances. Our expectation is that demand for service will continue to increase and the provider will need to respond pro-actively to this challenge.
This aim will be achieved by assisting residents through the repair, adaptation or improvement process, so that the resident is able to remain in their own home in a warm, safe, secure and accessible environment. The service will also include the provision of suitable housing advice regarding appropriate housing options (it may not be feasible for a home to be adapted or that it remain suitable for the resident), the direct provision of repair and maintenance services where appropriate, preventative initiatives, and providing advice on accessing appropriate, including private, finance.
