Hotel Provision – Wolverhampton – Soft Market Test
To seek input from the market in exploring procurement routes and delivery options for new hotel provision within Wolverhampton City Centre.
The City of Wolverhampton Council is conducting a Soft Market Test to seek input from the market in exploring procurement routes and delivery options for new hotel provision within Wolverhampton City Centre which is key in underpinning the City of Wolverhampton Council (CWC) regeneration programme. The regeneration of Wolverhampton City Centre is a top priority for the City of Wolverhampton Council. We have seen a recent resurgence in development and investment activity within the City Centre from both the public and private sector. Crucial investment in commercial floorspace, critical infrastructure, residential development and educational facilities is underway helping to support economic growth, create opportunities for all and improve perceptions of the City which will ultimately improve occupier, developer and investor appetite within the City. Key to the regeneration programme is to address the undersupply of good quality hotel provision within the City Centre which will help support the business and leisure economy post COVID. The delivery of good quality hotel space has been part of the regeneration plans for the City for a significant period of time, dating back to 2011/2012 when the City Centre Prospectus was launched which included various regeneration opportunities, including hotel use. The principal is also enshrined in planning policy (AAP) and hotel proposals have emerged for various sites across the City but have unfortunately not come to fruition. This soft market testing exercise provides an opportunity for CWC to engage with the market at an early stage and to help design our formal procurement process. The formal procurement process for both a brand and operator will commence later this year. This is not a call for competition and as such no contract will be awarded following this exercise. The closing date for responses is 1200hrs 31st March 2021.
