The Science Museum Group wishes to appoint a firm to provide internal audit services across its five museums.
The successful firm will be able to demonstrate their ability to provide a proactive risk-based internal audit service. They will be prepared to challenge existing processes and support management in identifying efficiencies and driving change without undue risk, as well as providing assurance on key controls.

The Science Museum Group (‘SMG’) is a group of five museums:
Science Museum in London.
Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester.
National Media Museum in Bradford.
National Railway Museum in York.
Locomotion: National Railway Museum in Shildon.
As a group, SMG attracts over 5 million visitors a year and houses the national collections of human innovation. It is the most significant group of science museums in the world, with over 7 million items in its collections.
SMG welcomed the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester into the Group during 2012. As an expanding group of museums with wide ranging strategic ambitions in challenging economic times, SMG requires internal auditors who will not only provide assurance on the controls in place to manage diverse risks, but will also assist management in its ongoing programme of change and process re-engineering by being prepared to challenge the status quo whilst ensuring the risks of growth and change are appropriately managed and controlled.
The appointed firm would provide internal audit services to the SMG museums and the trading subsidiary, SCMG Enterprises Ltd.

Justification for the choice of accelerated procedure: The Organisation went out to Tender on the 30.9.2011 but due to the submissions not meeting our requirements the Tender Process was cancelled in February 2012. The Organisation ran another Tender Process with more defined requirements in October 2012 calling off from the Government Procurement Service framework. Unfortunately we did not receive sufficiant number of responses to complete the competition. Due to time constraints we are now needing to run an Accelerated Restricted Procdure so that we can meet our deadline of appointing by 31.1.2013.
