Northumbria University intends to let a single provider framework agreement for the provision of Internet services. Expressions of interest are invited from companies interested in tendering for appointment to this Framework as the sole provider of Internet services. Other universities and higher education institutions will be able to access the framework as required.
The initial requirement relates to the provision of Internet Services to Northumbria University when the current contract for the provision of a minimum of 8mbit broadband internet service to student bedrooms expires on 31.8.2013.
The primary requirement of the system is to provide high speed access to the internet from each bedroom, independent from the University network and at an affordable tariff for students. The system will be expected to support current and anticipated technologies and to have minimum disruption to students or vacation guests during installation which would include the ability to increase capacity to each room as required.
The existing infrastructure is owned by the University whilst the fibres to the buildings are hired by the internet service provider. The internet service provider maintains and replaces the equipment where required.
The University currently charges students for the use of the service within the rent and pays an annual sum to the internet provider. Tenders should include all costs to the University, including any additional hardware and fibre optic cables required.
