Sefton Council is implementing the Kings Gardens Restoration Project.
The project, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, includes extensive repair and restoration within the 15 hectare Grade II listed historic park, including amenity spaces, public realm, soft landscaping, historic buildings, structures, paths, surfaces, lighting, street furniture and the marine lake edge.
Restoration of existing structures include a Venetian footbridge over the marine lake, 9 No. Grade II listed cast iron shelters and several other historic buildings, including the former ticket office and former ladies conveniences, as well as an Arts & Crafts Shelter.
There is a variety of footways throughout the Gardens to be either re-surfaced or re-constructed. The waterside revetment and concrete retaining wall around the lake are to be repaired. The existing lighting is to be restored, with additional replica units introduced and the whole lighting layout will be re-cabled.
The soft landscaping will be replaced and restored to the historic layout and a new children’s playground will be installed. In addition, new street furniture and signage will be introduced.
The project team are seeking to identify a suitable tender list for the contract.
