Description of the goods or services required

Knowledge into Action Research – Defining Methods and Strategic National Projects to Implement the NHSScotland Knowledge into Action Model.

NHSScotland has a strong knowledge infrastructure in the form of the Knowledge Network (www.knowledge.scot.nhs.uk), a national librarian network, SIGN guidelines and other evidence products. The Knowledge into Action strategic review aimed to define a new national approach to translate this knowledge into frontline practice, planning and policy to support the national Quality Outcomes set out in the Quality Strategy and 20:20 vision for integrated health and social care, by:

– supporting practitioners to apply knowledge in frontline practice.

– embedding knowledge in healthcare improvement activities.

The Knowledge into Action model depends on combining knowledge from the research literature, the experience of practitioners, patients, and carers, data from practice activity, and the context in which services are delivered. Combining and contextualising different types of knowledge in this way aims to support care of individual patients in local contexts.

We are interested in establishing the methods that are used to source knowledge other than that from published research and if and how such knowledge is subsequently combined, presented and used together with research findings to inform frontline practice, and support clinical decision making in order to improve the quality of care.

There is a maximum budget of £32,000 GBP, excluding VAT for this project with completion by the end of March 2013.
