NHDC’s Green Spaces Strategy has identified it as a site in need of improvements. It is also identified as an important green space in the Conservation Area Character Assessment. Bancroft Gardens has a variety of trees and formal garden areas, a children’s playground, a bandstand, a river walk and facilities for sport (tennis courts, bowling greens and the bowling green pavilion). It also contains a timber framed 1960’s hall which has been identified for removal in the council’s Community Halls strategy. This gives the opportunity to increase the availability of green space and maximise the community use of the 1920’s retained brick built bowls pavilion. The Gardens can accommodate informal recreation and has an event space for larger gatherings.
