Description of the contract
The Grade II listed dairy building is being repaired and adapted for a new use as part of a major programme of works by English Heritage at Kenwood House. The proposed works can be summarised as follows: – Demolition of the northern link building behind the historic quadrant walls. – Removal of the impervious C20th external cement render and reinstatement of the historic breathable lime render/lime wash finish. – Replacement of the early C20th machine cut Welsh slates with second hand salvaged graded Cornish slates. – Reinstatement of the historic fenestration pattern and door openings. – Reinstatement of the historic glazing bars/leaded light panels. – Reinstatement of decorations based on historic paint analysis research. – Reinstatement of some of the historic internal layouts such as the former scalding room and the semi-octagonal entrance lobby. – Conservation and restoration of the historic dairy room and tearoom interiors based on historic research. – Alterations to form new office accommodation, WC facilities and teapoint – Removal of modern impervious internal gypsum plaster finishes and replacement with soft breathable lime plaster. – Hard and soft landscaping works around the Dairy – Repairs to ice house and erection of new entrance enclosure. – Erection of new discreet single storey weatherboarded storage enclosure.
