The McEwan Hall is a Grade ‘A’ listed and iconic University of Edinburgh building for which we are seeking to appoint a Main Contractor who has the experience and capability to manage the redevelopment project. The stonework and external repairs have been progressed separately are largely complete.
The works are likely to take place over a two year period and will require the McEwan Hall to close for the duration of this phase of the works.
The University vision is to restore the McEwan Hall building to its former glory while taking the opportunity to open the ceremonial hall for the wider public to enjoy. The main component parts of the McEwan Hall Redevelopment project are to:
restore the damaged exterior Victorian stonework,
construct a new public facing entrance building and link which leads visitors directly into an extended basement area from a redeveloped Bristo Square,
create new flexible basement accommodation which will support the vision of McEwan Hall being used all year round,
renovate and develop the existing basement area including providing additional toilet facilities to accommodate the numbers of guests for graduations, examinations, lectures and public events,
landscape the Bristo Square area making it more accessible, safe and increasing its potential as a significant public space for activities and performances,
restore the main hall, making it a spectacular multi-functional space.
Overview of procurement exercise
As a first step to awarding the main contract for this project, this pre-qualification questionnaire PQQ has been drafted in order to assess the quality of the companies who are seeking the appointment.
The PQQ is marked out of 65 and the highest 5 companies will be invited to tender.
The ITT stage will comprise a contract sum based on tender documentation and a further questionnaire. The questionnaire will be marked and the tender evaluated and both will be weighted to get a final cost quality mark.
All companies selected for the ITT stage will be invited for interview and the marks incorporated into the quality score.
