The University is widely acclaimed for its business activities in the low carbon sector. The University has commissioned the design and construction of an exemplary low carbon Enterprise Centre. The 3 400 m2 building is set to achieve BREAAM Outstanding and Passivhaus certification – the highest standards for energy performance and sustainability in construction (and will be the UK’s largest Passivhaus certified building). Through its energy efficiency and innovative use of local natural materials it will set new standards in building concept and design and will be one of the most sustainable buildings in the world. Materials used in the build and construction methods have been selected to ensure the building has low embodied carbon as well as low in use carbon emissions. The project has already impacted on the regional bio-economy by being the first large construction project to use Thetford forest timber and incorporating local thatch.
The new building will accommodate UEA staff, students, business tenants, a 300 seat lecture theatre and conference facilities. The building will also be open to the public and will showcase innovative sustainable construction materials. The Enterprise Centre would like to appoint a supplier for the supply and installation of furniture at the Centre, to fit within the design and sustainability ethos of the project
