A new borough wide Major Adaptations Contract arrangement is proposed for the provision of all major disabled adaptations in vulnerable residents’ homes throughout the borough. Proposals for this inclusive service will combine major adaptations works to Council owned housing funded from HRA, and adaptations to individual home owner’s properties and/or private rented accommodation funded via Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) or other capital allocations.
This new joint Housing and Adult Care contract arrangement will commence in May 2013 and will undertake all the borough’s major adaptations work for a three year period with an option to extend by a further two years. The total estimated yearly value of the major adaptations contract is approximately 1 000 000 GBP per annum.
The contract calls for a broad range of construction, building, plumbing, electrical and specialist mechanical and electrical skills and experience in providing major adaptations work in occupied homes of elderly, vulnerable and disabled residents. The work means working closely with the Council’s OT (Occupational Therapist) assessments and in-house surveyors and technical specialists.
Examples of the major adaptations works proposed by the new contract include installation of straight or curved stair lifts, hoists, level access showers with or without WCs, providing wheelchair access, kitchen and bathroom alterations, ramps hard standings and shelters, building alterations and extensions, and specialist mechanical and electrical installations etc.
