Description of the contract

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) is an independent organisation responsible for providing national guidance on promoting good health and preventing and treating disease. The Centre for Public Health Excellence (CPHE) at NICE has been asked by the Department of Health (DH) to develop public health guidance aimed at managing overweight and obesity in children and young people through lifestyle weight management services. CPHE would like to commission two evidence reviews. These are: • A review to address questions regarding the effectiveness of lifestyle weight management programmes for overweight or obese children and young people aged 2-17 years. • A review to address questions regarding the barriers and facilitators for lifestyle weight management programmes for children and young people including the views of children, young people and their families, the role of parents, carers and families, suitability for different age groups and population groups, social and mental well-being, training needs of professionals and best practice principles for primary care and commissioners. The contractor(s) will be multidisciplinary, capable of providing high quality analyses to decision makers within very tight timescales. Specialist expertise in research on lifestyle weight management, diet, physical activity, behavioural interventions and/or children’s health would be an advantage. Expressions of interests from individual organisations or consortia of organisations are welcomed.
