The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is looking to identify a Managed Service Provider to manage the provision of Medical Assessments and Testing to assist with its fitness to practice procedures.
The (GPhC) is the independent regulator for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy premises in Britain. It is our job to protect, promote and maintain the health, safety and wellbeing of members of the public by upholding standards and public trust in pharmacy.
The GPhC’s role covers a wide range of functions that assure pharmacist/pharmacy technicians competence and fitness to practice, and that pharmacy premises are maintaining the required standards. The functions include, dealing with concerns of impairment to fitness to practice, which may be wholly or partly due to the Registrant’s health.
We require the Managed Assessment and Testing provider to assist in:
— examining the Registrant,
— compiling a report of the findings, which includes a professional opinion on the Registrant’s fitness to practise, and
— to carry out testing where required.
This will assist the committee in determining whether the Registrant’s fitness to practise is impaired.
Testing could include:
— Blood samples;
— Drug and Alcohol testing.
The GPhC is now seeking to manage this through a managed service provider for a period of not less than 3 years, with the scope to offer a 1 year extension to this contract. Potential bidders must be able to demonstrate a successful track record in supplying Medical Assessments and carrying out testing across all areas of Great Britain covering a wide range of specialisms, including GP, General and Specialist Psychiatry; Substance Abuse; Mental Health and Occupational Health. These assessments will include, judgement on registrants’ fitness to practise.
