Additional Information

‘Shaping the Future’ is a unique talent management programme that focuses on the development of an entire region. It is designed to create new jobs in North West Wales that take advantage of the high concentration of engineering and technical expertise present in the nuclear power industry. As the Magnox stations at Wylfa and Trawsfynydd are decommissioned, it is vital that new outlets are found for the skills, knowledge and experience of the people currently working there.

The project is led by Menter Môn and has attracted funding from a range of public and private-sector sources with the aim of creating £6m of new salary income in the new region. The project will give up to 1,200 people the opportunity to shape their own futures and to prepare, with specialist support, for transfer to new industries.

‘Shaping the Future’ involves a substantial investment in skills audit, specialist training and career counselling to prepare the working population for new opportunities in sectors such as Energy & Environment, Advanced materials & Manufacturing, Creative Industries, Life Sciences, Professional Services and Information, Communication & Technology (ICT). It will also develop new qualifications and accreditation based on existing transferable skills.
