Description of the contract

Following a review, in 2011/12 NOMS launched, jointly with the NHS, its Strategy for working with offenders with Personality Disorders (PD). This strategy includes services and interventions provided in both custodial and community settings and envisages partnerships in the delivery of these services between lead Criminal Justices and health partner. As part of this strategy Staffordshire and West Midlands (SWM) Probation Trust has been contracted by NOMS-NHS Commissioning Team for the development of a PIPE (Psychologically Informed Planned Environment) at a women’s Approved Premise in Birmingham and potential for additional funding for 1 day per week (0.2 FTE) of psychologist time to exploring potential developments towards becoming a PIPE in Bedford. This option offers the potential for the recruitment to a full-time Psychologist post and up to a part-time Assistant Psychologist. The creation of a PIPE will include procuring a health partner to provide the psychologist input to the hostel alongside the planned additional probation staff. The health partner contract will be for a period of 9 months from 1 July 2014, with an option to extend up to a further 24 months.
